Freedom

Tomorrow America will celebrate its declaration of freedom from a tyrannical reign.

Today, the world is watching the people of Egypt gather to fight for freedom they claimed from a tyrant just a year ago. The people of Syria are in a battle to oust a dictator. And once again in America, we find our government has forgotten the reason our ancestors shed blood and gave their lives - FREEDOM.

We live in a time where 24/7 access to news and live feeds shows us people are still very willing to fight for freedom. With each revolution we watch on TV and read about on the Internet and papers, there comes a confidence of a people to fight for freedom.

The fate of the Egyptian people is uncertain. But the fate of our nation is equally uncertain. We are not yet gathering at the steps of the Capitol with a demand for our elected officials to step down or face the reality of bloodshed because they have overstepped their boundaries as defined by our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. But as our Founding Fathers illustrated to us over 200 years ago, there comes a time when the people decide the price of freedom is worth paying.

So, on the eve of our day to celebrate freedom...

I pray our elected officials spend time reflecting on the meaning of the 4th of July as they attend picnics and fireworks displays with their families.

I pray our elected officials reflect on the limits of the Constitution and begin to respect these limitations placed upon them by our forefathers.

I pray our elected officials stop taking for granted the trust the American people want to have for their government.

I pray that our celebration of freedom on the 4th of July continues for centuries to come.

There is no need for American's to ever have to shed blood or lives to maintain freedom from our own government. Our Founding Fathers made sure of this with our Constitution. If respected, it will provide exactly what is necessary to maintain freedom until the end of time.
