Oh by the way…did I mention the convention?

So here we are, after the VA Republican convention, and wow, it was inspiring, exciting and exhausting. Delegates from all over the Commonwealth of Virginia traveled to the Capital city of Richmond to elect candidates to run in the Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General races in November.

It was...

Inspiring because over 8000 delegates came to be a part of the political process of picking our leaders that started in Virginia over 200 years ago by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, both Virginians.

Exciting because after months of campaigning, we finally get to see who wins and who we will support moving forward.

Exhausting because the process went on for over 10 hours. The winning candidates must get over 50% of the weighted vote. The Lt. Governor race began with 7 candidates. After an epic four votes, the candidate was selected.

People were there to have a say in who potentially runs our government.  There were Republicans, Tea Party members and Libertarians all under one tent, literally.  We might not agree on every issue, but that's okay.  It was like a family reunion and the Fourth of July all at the same time.

Many folks, unlike myself, have been involved in the process for many years and can tell you the exact year they became involved and who was running.  There was an abundance of old war stories and memories everywhere you turned.  For others, it was their first time – all patriots.

The aftermath of the convention is this, we have our Republican candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General. The work has just begun. They will travel the Commonwealth speaking about conservative principles and why their way of governing would be better for Virginia. We will work behind the scenes from a local level, our unit level, to get these candidates elected…and I thought I was tired after the convention.

We, in this country, are truly blessed we have the opportunity to have a say in our government.  Many have fought for us to have that right.  I hope if you are someone that has become one of those who feels they can't make a difference, I am here to say you can.

Are you unhappy with our leaders?  Get involved.

Get your family and friends involved.

Learn about the process.

Be the solution.
